Review - JW Marriott Austin

Enroute:
My partner attended a conference during the week in Austin, and I decided to tag along. I’d never been to Texas before, but ever since the pandemic all you hear about is how Austin is the hottest town in America, so I figured I better go see for myself. Given this was a work trip, I had no hands in choosing the hotel.
We flew in from NYC late at night. I don’t want to make any accusations, but our front desk agent was spacey. I don’t think he strung one complete sentence together. We quickly took our keys and headed to our room.
Unpack:
We checked into a one king guest room, which was spacious enough. Upon entry, the bathroom was to the right.
Then the rest of the room featured a king bed, a chair and a desk. Oddly, there was no fridge in the room.
A building nearby was under construction, so that’s pretty much what your view was. At least we were on a higher floor.
Unwind:
There was a spa on property at the JW. We never had a chance to visit, but the menu is below.
I did manage to go to the gym once. It was nice enough.
Next to the gym was an outdoor pool. The pool got super busy over the weekend.
Refuel:
The JW had a few dining venues. Obviously, you’d try to get some brisket or Tex-Mex while in Austin, so we only checked out the lounge.
The lounge offerings were as follows:
The lounge itself was a pleasant space. Surprisingly, it never got nearly as half full as a Centurion Lounge.
We met up with a friend on Saturday and had a few snacks by the pool. You can see the menu below.
The food was decent.
Depart:
JW Marriott Austin was a satisfactory city business hotel. The room was relatively new, the housekeeping was great, and they didn’t play games with bottled water or late check-out. While many people might find this minor, I noticed the elevators were really fast at this hotel. I’d recommend the JW to anyone who’s in town for work.
