Enroute:

We headed to the hotel from Belgrade Airport at around noon. There were plenty of taxis waiting outside, although based on our experience, there wasn’t any system or fare guidance. The guy quoted us an equivalent of ~$40, which was a bit high but we wanted to get checked in and start exploring. The drive only took about 20 minutes, as there was little traffic on a Saturday.

The hotel is located on a main boulevard in Belgrade and was easy to recognize.

Check-in:

There were two girls working at reception, and both of them were extremely friendly. As a matter of fact, every Serbian we met was very friendly. The girl checking us in was named Tamara. She informed us we had been upgraded to a junior suite, explained the hotel facilities and Bonvoy benefits. She mentioned Platinum and above members receive a complimentary 15-minute back rub, which was an interesting offering. We called the spa to enquire about availability but were told the soonest was in 3 days. Oh well.

With our keys in hand, we went up to our room located on the 6th floor.

Unpack:

Upon entrance was a living room and a small dining section.

Next to the dining table was a fully stocked minibar and a Nespresso.

Opposite from the minibar was a closet with a safe and a bathrobe.

Both the living room and the bedroom face a park on the back side of the hotel.

The next room was the bedroom, as well as a sizable bathroom.

While the rest of the room was fine, the bathroom must be the worst bathroom I’ve ever showered in. The water pressure was pathetic, the drain was not flowing, and the ceiling was leaking cold water. Ugh. On the plus side, I was surprised to see the hotel offered Byredo lotion and conditioner. Strangely the shower gel and shampoo were from a different brand, lol.

Overall I thought the room was perfectly fine. Had we needed to be there for more than one night I probably would’ve asked to switch to a room with a functioning shower.

Unwind:

The hotel’s spa and gym complex was at the basement level. We didn’t use either, but I snapped a few pics for review purposes.

Outside the gym was a gallery of all the famous people who had stayed at this hotel, which I found mildly entertaining.

Refuel:

Our flight the next day was quite early, so we decided to skip breakfast. We did visit the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar The TwentyTwo for a quick night cap. The venue was beautiful, with terraces on both sides of the building, so you could see the city in all directions.

A summer shower had just cleared the sky, so we were treated to a magical sunset.

We ordered a couple Serbian wines and sat outside until the daylight completely vanished. You can find the bar menu here:

Depart:

The Metropol Palace is a solid option if you’re visiting Belgrade. The service was friendly, and the amenities were quite decent. Belgrade is a cute smaller European capital that I think is worth checking out. The city is very walkable and has wonderful food and drink options. I did see there’s a sign for a new St. Regis by the new riverside development, so if I ever come back to Belgrade I’ll definitely check that one out.
