Review - Aeromexico Business Class B737 Max 9 Miami to Mexico City
Aeromexico Business Class B737 Max 9 Miami to Mexico City
February 28th, 2025
Check-in:
We recently spent a long weekend in Mexico City, one of my favorite cities in the world. It was such an easy flight from Miami, with multiple frequencies on both AA and Aeromexico clocking in at just over three hours. I flew with Aeromexico many years ago from Amsterdam to Mexico City in its B787-9 business class, and it was firmly a mid. I redeemed 25,000 Air France FlyingBlue miles per person for our business class tickets, although the cash fare for our flight was quite reasonable. I believe it was a bit north of $600.
We arrived at MIA shortly after 6am for our 7:20am departure. The check-in area was empty, and we were helped immediately.
A random tangent here. I don’t ever use Clear since I usually fly out of concourse D at MIA. I used Clear before this Aeromexico flight, and it was literally 10x slower than the regular pre-check line. Most of the Clear users didn’t have pre-check, and the TSA wasn’t taking them for some reason. It was a disaster.
Lounge:
We didn’t have a chance to visit any lounge, but I think you can use the Delta SkyClub?
Boarding:
What I was not expecting was the most orderly and calm boarding process I’ve ever experienced in the US. Priority passengers were directed to the opposite side of everyone else, which eliminated a lot of the crowding and confusion.
Business class cabins on narrowbody aircraft are rarely something inspirational, and Aeromexico was no exception.
Awaiting at each seat were a blanket and a pillow. Too bad we don’t get these in the States anymore.
The recline was much more generous than Aeromexico’s American counterparts, though. I believe the seat pitch might have been a couple inches wider.
It was also great to see IFE screens at each seat, especially as a jaded American Airlines flyer. The friendly FA came around to offer well-packged headphones, which were sufficient for a short flight like this.
Bluetooth audio was equipped, should you wish to connect your own device. Wifi was $9 for the whole flight.
While boarding was civilized, it wasn’t necessarily efficient. 10mins before pushback, we were offered either water or orange juice as a pre-departure drink. I like that Aeromexico served them in proper glasses.
Inflight:
Similar to US airlines, you could pre-order your meal on Aeromexico. For breakfast, there were four choices.
I went with the smoked salmon platter, while my partner had the omelet.
The food was edible. Interestingly, the yogurt was allegedly from a small co-op farm from upstate NY. To drink, I had some sparkling water and coffee. Unfortunately, Aeromexico only offered powdered creamer, which seems to be the norm (maybe even preference) in this part of the world.
Throughout the remainder of the flight, the FA was actively cruising the cabin to offer anyone who might need anything. We partook in some Mexican cookies. The chocolate wafer was so yummy.
As we were approaching the end of our flight, my eyes were glued by the landscape outside. After flying past the Yucatán, the mountains emerged from the horizon.
Does anyone know if the airport below is the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport?
On Arrival:
We had a pleasant flight with Aeromexico - modern plane, spacious seats, decent food and friendly service. It is a small cut above the US airlines, and I’d choose it again to go to Mexico next time.
