A Word from the Chef:

I had a couple of hours to kill prior to my ANA flight to Haneda, so I checked out the Juneyao Air Lounge. Juneyao is a Chinese airline that has been growing significantly in the past several years. It went from a regional airline to now flying Dreamliners to various destinations in Europe. I’ve only flown with them domestically in China before, but I heard their long-haul service is quite competitive.

The last time I came through PVG, this lounge didn’t exist yet, so I was intrigued by Juneyao’s lounge product.

Plat Principal:

Pudong Airport is an absolute labyrinth. The two main terminals are massive to begin with, then they added two equally gigantic satellite terminals. I always feel like I’m running a half marathon at Pudong.

Therefore, the lounges at PVG are numbered to lessen confusion. The Juneyao Lounge I visited was No. 72, as the airline operates multiple lounges at the airport.

Of all the lounges at Terminal 2, Juneyao definitely had the most modern design, given how relatively new it was. I showed the receptionists my Priority Pass and was admitted in seconds.

The layout of the lounge was pretty straightforward, as it was just one big room that you could see from one end to another. Juneyao itself didn’t have that many flights throughout the night, but the lounge was open 24/7. It just shows how many lounges depend on networks like Priority Pass to make the economics work. Oh, and whoever says the Chinese economy is tanking, I don’t know. The lounges I’d been to in China lately could give Centurion Lounges or SkyClubs a run for their money when it comes to crowding.

As you make your way further into the lounge, there were the buffet and beverage stations, along with cafe-style seating.

I didn’t have any food here, but there were a handful Chinese hot dishes available, as well as a salad bar, dim sums, desserts, cereals (oddly) and made-to-order noodles. The drinks included wine, beers, spirits and soft drinks. The Perrier was a nice touch.

Towards the very back end of the lounge were the bathrooms and showers.

The bathroom was standard, with the exception of Acqua di Parma hand lotion, which sure was random.

Digestif:

Juneyao Air No. 72 VIP Lounge was a decent Priority Pass lounge. However, if I paid full fare on Juneyao Air’s intercontinental business class, I’m sure I’d be kind of disappointed. Then again, none of the lounges at PVG is worth getting to the airport early for.
